Beyond the Stripe - Parking Functional Design

Thursday, September 17, 9:00 AM, Room: Columbia 4

This presentation explores the fundamental design considerations for parking facilities, focusing on principles that promote safety, accessibility, sustainability, and long-term structural performance.

Participants will examine how design strategies impact user experience and public welfare, and will gain insights into integrating emerging technologies, electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure, and ADA-compliant accessibility features.

Learning Objectives

  • Understand essential parking design principles that promote safe vehicle circulation, pedestrian safety, and overall user well-being within parking facilities.

  • Become familiar with structural design strategies that enhance the durability, integrity, and long-term performance of parking facilities, reducing hazards and ensuring occupant safety.

  • Gain an understanding of how accessibility features and electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure can be incorporated into parking design to support inclusive access and sustainable design practices in compliance with ADA and local codes.
